OBJECTIVE

The contest aims to promote the image and quality of Peruvian cocoa through the evaluation of the physical and sensory quality of cocoa beans from the different cocoa-growing regions of Peru.

COVERAGE

The contest is nationwide (Peru).

REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST

Main standards for the cocoa beans

Cocoa beans chould be sent to APPCACAO at Jr. Sáenz Peña 525, Int. 605, Magdalena del Mar – Lima until August 30, 2021.

Packaging for the samples

Cocoa beans should be packaged in jute, tocuyo, or cloth sacks. Properly sealed and packed in materials that protect the sack.

Samples that do not meet the requirements indicated in the competition guide will be discarded.

Labels for the samples

The samples must be labeled according to the instructions indicated in the competition guide:

  1. Sample receipt form from Annex 01 of the Competition Guide.
  2. Photocopy of proof of payment.

Representative sample sizes

The sample quantity should be 2 kg, which will be used for physical and sensory analysis.

The lots from which the cocoa samples are taken may be from a single producer or from a group of producers, and the volume of the lot should not be less than 500 kg in the case of individual producers and not less than 1 t in the case of producer organizations or companies. Only one sample per batch will be accepted.

Cost of participation in the contest

The cost of participation for each cocoa sample will be S / 60.00 (sixty and 00/100 soles), which must be deposited into the APPCACAO account.

Once the deposit has been made, participants must send a scanned copy of the payment receipt and the Annex 01 of competition guide to: contabilidad@appcacao.org and administracion@appcacao.org

Award to the best cocoa beans

The 10 best samples will be awarded according to the order of merit achieved and the minimum passing score. A maximum of two samples per region will be taken into consideration.
